Overview

Role & Impact

  • TOJAM is an annual 3 day Game Jam that's hosted in Toronto, Canada.

  • Within a team of two, me and my team member created a bullet hell ninja fighter game with a twist.

  • once a player thrown shuriken hits the wall, it's able to kill the player.

  • This was built using the Godot engine.

  • Within this team, I took care of the art implementation by designing and animating various sprite characters and objects to give life within the scene.

  • I contributed to the programming by creating the enemy spawn systems and controlling their difficulty as the in game timer increases.

  • This served as an opportunity to become familiar with the Godot engine and proved I can transfer my game development skills across different editors.

Functionality

Visualization

  • Transitioning from C# to GDScript was a challenge I was able to overcome by applying the same programming principles to a different syntax.

What I learned

  • I was able to transfer the skills I built within Unity Engine, and apply development skills to an unfamiliar software, Godot.

  • I worked with someone who was purely technical, so I had to apply design principles to this game to create a compelling experience.
